Ten To Resurrect Russell Coight in 2017

Well, who would have thought that Aussie larrikin and Glenn Robbins’ alter ego, Russell Coight, would grace the TV sets of Australia once more?

News.com.au noted that the last time Russell Coight’s All Aussie Adventures appeared on Ten was in 2002 years ago (for those who aren’t aware of the show, it’s a pretty hilarious parody on the adventure travel scene), and it leads an interesting new bunch of Aussie content for the network in 2017.

Joining Russell Coight will be a new feel-good drama from the producers of Offspring (which will be coming back to Ten in 2017), called Sisters, which has a decent cast that includes Barry Otto, Catherine McClements, Roy Billing and Magda Szubanski.

Wake In Fright is the other big drama that Ten is offering next year. It’s a two-part adaptation of an Aussie novel by Kenneth Cook.

The network is also looking to capitalise on the success of its reality show Gogglebox (which has been renewed) with a new show called Common Sense, which will feature a regular cast of real people and their unfiltered opinions on the week’s most talked-about news topics as they chat with their workmates, according to News.com.au.

Ten has also rebranded The Biggest Loser to The Biggest Loser: Transformed, which will be hosted by Fiona Falkiner with feautre trainers Shannon Ponton and Libby Babet.

Among the other shows that are coming back to Ten in 2017 are MasterChef Australia, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette Australia, The Wrong Girl and Australian Survivor.

According to News.com.au, Ten CEO Paul Anderson said the network would concentrate on further increasing its prime-time audience by locking in its 7.30pm reality franchises for the year.

“We will create year-round consistency in our 7.30pm franchises, something Ten has never achieved before,” he said.

“Growth, momentum and consistency have been the hallmark of Ten in recent years and that will continue in 2017.”
