Sunday TV Wrap: Ninja Warrior Pulls 929,000, But Down 45% From 2017

Dare we say it, but are we already suffering from overly fit people fatigue? Following the calamity that was Seven’s Australian Sparta, Nine’s returning Ninja Warrior pulled 929,000 viewers last night, some 45 per cent down on 2017’s numbers.

Although 929,000 is far from a disaster, it’s been reported that Nine had been promising advertisers closer to the 1.5 million-mark.

Arguably, the surprise of last night was the ABC’s returning Jack Irish that pulled an impressive 723,000.

Still, Ninja did enough to give Nine a Sunday night win, the network snaring 30.1 per cent audience share last night. Seven was a slither behind with 29.5 per cent. It was bad news for Ten (16.1 per cent) who got beat by the Jack Irish-inspired ABC (16.7 per cent), while SBS mustered 7.7 per cent.

In the battle of the reality shows, House Rules (835,000) nabbed bragging rights, while MasterChef took a hit, mustering 748,000.

Seven’s news was the most watched show of the evening with 1.17 million and saw off Nine’s bulletin that had 1.034 million.

Nine turned the tables with its current affairs, 60 Minutes (618,000) beating Seven’s Sunday Night (555,000).

It would appear that Ten viewers were the ones tuning into Nine’s Ninja. Not only did MasterChef take a Sunday night hit, but The Project (421,000) was also markedly down.

Over at the ABC, Jack Irish aside, its other standouts were its 7pm new bulletin with 717,000 and Grand Designs New Zealand with 527,000.
