As expected, last night’s finale of The Block proved a triumph for Nine and left all-comers in its renovating dust.

Some 2.26 million viewers tuned in to see Victorian couple Josh Barker and Elyse Knowles announced as this year’s winners, snaring over $3 million for their renovated house (bought by comic and radio star, Dave Hughes). The rest of the episode enjoyed average viewer numbers of 1.98 million.

Naturally, Nine romped it home in terms of Sunday night viewer numbers. Nine had a whopping 40.6 per cent viewer share, followed by Seven with 24.7 per cent and the ABC with 19.6 per cent. Ten had an absolute pig of a night, managing only 9.7 per cent, and almost suffering the the ignominy of being beaten by the SBS who managed 5.5 per cent.

Nine’s 60 Minutes (1.46 million) belted Seven’s Sunday Night (568,000), while Nine’s 6pm news bulletin (1.02 million) also had the bragging rights over Seven’s (922,000).

However, ABC viewers certainly didn’t desert to The BlockDoc Martin was impressive with 933,000, (the soon to be moved to Seven) The Doctor Blake Mysteries had 902,000. The ABC’s 7pm news managed 758,000, Wallander had 357,000 and Classic Countdown was 236,000.

It was basically a car crash everywhere for Ten. Its news bulletin was its best with 357,000, while nothing else went over the 300K mark. The Sunday Project had 229,000, Family Feud managed 217,000, Bull had 213,000 and NCIS: New Orleans had 207,000.

For SBS, its best was Underwater Pompeii that pulled a rather damp 211,000.
