It was regarded as one of the great World Cup finals, so SBS would arguably be disappointed with the 484,000 viewers that stayed up to watch France beat Croatia in this morning’s match that, admittedly, came with a 1am kick-off AEST time.

And Australia’s contribution was just a blip in the estimated 3.4 billion global television audience for this morning’s game (although actual numbers are yet to be confirmed).

Meanwhile, Seven’s late-night coverage of the men’s Wimbledon final last night could only keep 275,000 tennis fans out of bed.

In other Sunday night telly news, Ninja Warrior naysayers may need bite their tongues after the aerobic-a-thon posted its best numbers thus far this season – some 967,000 viewers.

Seven won Sunday night thanks to its multi channels and its 6pm news bulletin (1.293 million) and the improving House Rules (876,000). However, Sunday Night (627,000) again got beat by 60 Minutes (702,000).

Nine had to settle for a close second with 29.6 per cent. Ten had 15.1 per cent, the ABC had 14.7 per cent and SBS pulled 9.6 per cent.

Ninja and 60 Minutes aside, Nine’s other standout was its 6pm news which boasted 1.065 million.

Ten’s best was MasterChef with 745,000, while The Sunday Project had a disappointing night with  432,000.

Over at the ABC, its 7pm news bulletin was its top performer with 721,000, while Jack Irish managed 681,000.
