Sportsbet Reportedly Taking Bets On Who’ll Be Next Women’s Weekly Editor

Following yesterday’s surprising announcement that Women’s Weekly editor Helen McCabe was quitting the role comes the news that online gambling site Sportsbet.com.au is now running a market to see who’ll takeover one of Australia’s most prestigious roles.

Sportsbet are known for some rather outlandish stunts but insists the market and odds are bona fide.

According to the odds McCabe’s deputy editor, Juliet Rieden, is favourite to fill the ed’s chair at the rather good odds of $5. A close second is Dolly editor Lucy Cousins at $6 and Marie Claire deputy editor Melissa Gaurdon is at sevens.

“There’ll be no shortage of media types lining up for the job but Juliet Rieden has her foot well and truly in the door,” said Sportsbet’s Christian Jantzen.

Still, we’re not exactly sure who cobbled together the list of potential candidates as it certainly includes some oddities. The Daily Telegraph’s right-wing commentator Miranda Devine is at $51, Today’s Lisa Wilkinson at $101 and even Nigella Lawson is in there at $501.

And the blokes haven’t been forgotten either. Men’s Health editor Luke Benedictus is at the surprisingly short odds of $101. And there’s also a couple of real roughies – editor of lad’s mag Maxim, Santi Pintado, is at $501 and the editor of soft-porn mag People’s James Cooney rounds out the market.

The full market includes:

$5.00   Juliet Rieden

$6.00   Lucy Cousins

$7.00   Melissa Gaudron

$7.50   Justine Cullen

$8.00   Fiona Connolly

$11      Bronwyn McCahon

$11      Felicity Harley

$12      Rachelle Mackintosh

$13      Claire Askew

$14      Emma Vidgen

$15      Kirstie Clements

$15      Kate Kirsten

$21      Bryce Corbett

$21      Gemma Sutherland

$31      Keshnee Kemp

$34      Nicky Briger

$34      Lizza Gebilagin

$34      Claire Starkey

$51      Miranda Devine

$101    Luke Benedictus

$101    Maggie Beer

$101    Lisa Wilkinson

$501    Nigella Lawson

$501    James Branson

$501    Santi Pintado

$501    James Cooney
