Shazam Announces ‘Follow Musicians’ Feature

Shazam has announced a new feature which allows users to ‘follow’ their favourite musician’s musical taste.

A whole host of music names including Pitbull, Calvin Harris, Meghan Trainor, Avicii, Jason Derulo, Coldplay are launching profiles on the mobile app, giving fans the change to see what they’re listening to.

“Our users Shazam over 20 million times each day to discover the music playing around them,” said Rich Riley, chief executive officer at Shazam. “Now, those Shazams transform into an ongoing relationship with artists, giving users a truly unique place to get great music content.”

“The biggest artists in the world are also the biggest fans. They use Shazam every day to explore new music, and for the first time ever, their fans can share in those moments as they happen,” said Daniel Danker, chief product officer at Shazam.

Executive chairman Andrew Fisher told Business Insider: “For us as a company it’s beneficial because we’ll be able to increase the number of users, the number of page views, and therefore the amount of advertising inventory we can monetise.

“This is the music that artists are actually Shazaming because it inspires their work. That’s very different from the type of social content you might get from a Twitter or Facebook or Instagram. It’s a different type of information exchange,” Fischer added.
