Seven’s Bruce McAvaney Leads Choreographed Dance Routine For Melbourne Cup Telecast

He’s in charge of calling ‘the race that stops a nation’ one more time before Seven hands the Melbourne Cup broadcast reins over to 10, and Bruce McAvaney has already made it a memorable one.

An Instagram post by fellow Seven TV host and model Rachel Finch over the weekend shows McAvaney busting a few dance moves with the TV network’s other on-air talent as part of a promo video for the Melbourne Cup.

Seven has been broadcasting the Melbourne Cup Carnival since 2002, but will pass those duties over to Ten in 2019, after the rival network secured the rights in a five-year deal in September.

At the time that the new broadcast deal was announced, a Seven spokesperson told B&T: “We are proud of our award-winning racing coverage, but as we have consistently said about the economics of sports rights, the deal must make commercial sense or we will step away.

“While another party has placed a far higher valuation on these four afternoons of television, we will do what is financially responsible and right for our shareholders.”
