Seven West Media To Shut Down Longtime Classifieds Business

After more than 19 years serving Western Australia’s ‘buy and sell’ community, Seven West Media-owned classifieds business Quokka is shutting up shop.

Quokka allows householders to buy or sell unwanted goods mainly free of charge via a weekly printed publication and website. It also offers display, online and lineage paid advertising for businesses looking to access WA audiences.

B&T understands a total of four staff at Quokka were advised of being made redundant on Wednesday, which will come into effect on Tuesday 18 December.

The final print and and online editions of Quokka will be issued on Thursday 20 December, with the website to go offline permanently from that date.

Seven West Media is offering Quokka customers free advertising packages in The West Australian’s classifieds each Thursday for eight weeks following its closure.

While it used to be very popular back in the day, B&T understands Quokka has suffered a big drop in sales and revenue in recent times.

Seven West Media declined to comment when contacted by B&T.
