Channel Seven has taken exception to media reports that its Olympics app and coverage hasn’t lived up to expectations, taking aim at an article published on B&T today covering users’ concerns. Read the article in full here.

The story has been covered by a number of media outlet and says users of the app have complained it doesn’t work and when it does it’s plagued with faults. Those who paid the $20 premium have also complained they’ve been unable to access the full flotilla of Olympic events they were promised.

According to Seven, the app had 2.8 million streams yesterday (Sunday) and 4.1 million since it launched.

In a statement to B&T, a Seven spokesperson said: “Millions of Australians are watching our coverage across all the screens of Seven. 2.8 million streams yesterday alone has shattered our previous record of 843,000 during the Australian Open and the 488,000 launch at last Year’s Melbourne Cup.

“Unfortunately some have experienced problems streaming within the ‘Olympics On 7’ app yesterday. It is an international problem created by unprecedented demand across the globe.

“Our streaming partners – Olympic Broadcasting Services in Rio and Akamai – have assured us they are doing everything they can to avoid a repeat of any problems caused by the unparalleled audiences coming into digital platforms today,” he said.
