Rove & Sam Declare Lack Of Marriage Equality “Embarrassing” As 2DayFM Turns ‘2GayFm’

Southern Cross Austereo’s Sydney FM station 2DayFM has rebranded itself again to 2GayFM in support of marriage equality, spearheaded by new brekkie team Rove & Sam – Rove McMannus and Sam Frost.

The station has changed its name for the past few years in support of equality. And this year the station has its new duo on board who have released a video online saying the lack of marriage equality in Australia is “embarrassing” and “disgraceful”.

McMannus even quipped New Zealand already has marriage equality, and “they shouldn’t beat us at anything!”

“2GayFM loves the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and we can’t wait to celebrate the annual parade this weekend,” the company said in a release.

“As we celebrate, we believe it’s important to once again raise the issue of marriage equality in Australia.

“It’s 2016. Love is equal, but in Australia marriage is not. We call on all government officials to define marriage as a union of two people, no matter their sexuality. Stand with us. #ThisNeedsToChange.”

The brand is not unique in its standing. Many brands, especially around Mardi Gras time, have come out in support of diversity and marriage equality.

Big Aussie bank ANZ recently came out of the closet in a big way as it upped its illustrious GayTMs to rebrand itself as GAYNZ and refurbish the Oxford Street brand into a bank “fit for a queen”.

Numerous other brands took out a full page ad in News Corp’s The Australian last year showing their support for marriage equality.
