Q&A Carnage Proves Ratings Winner For ABC

ABC’s week of attacks saw an extra 230,000 viewers tune into Q&A to watch the carnage, and possibly another controversial moment.

According to OzTam figures, The panel discussion had 797,000 across the five major cities, up from 560,000 last Monday evening, helping the ABC to a 16.5 per cent audience share.

Despite the increase from last week, Q&A was the least popular ABC program last night in the top 20. ABC News (936,000), Four Corners (863,000), Media Watch (848,000) and Australian Story (820,000) all had more viewers.

During the Q&A program, host Tony Jones addressed the controversy which has plagued the ABC all of last week.

“Others can and no doubt will judge this program and the ABC … but it is appropriate to put a few facts on the record,” he said.

“The Q&A team were not aware at the time Zaky Mallah appeared of the very offensive and misogynistic tweet that he put out about two female journalists. Had we known, we would have rejected his participation.”

The Zaky Mallah controversy was divisive among the panel members:
