President Trump has taken time out his busy schedule to tweet about American department store Nordstrom and its decision to dump Ivanka Trump’s brand due to poor sales.

Last week, Nordstrom announced it was dropping Ivanka’s clothing and shoes line. The company said the decision was not a political one but just made ‘good business sense’.

“Over the past year, and particularly in the last half of 2016, sales of the brand have steadily declined to the point where it didn’t make good business sense for us to continue with the line for now,” the company said in a statement.

“We’ve had a great relationship with the Ivanka Trump team. We’ve had open conversations with them over the past year to share what we’ve seen and Ivanka was personally informed of our decision in early January.”

Nordstrom joins a growing list of brands which have ditched Ivanka Trump’s brand:

  • American luxury department Neiman Marcus

  • Canadian online shoe store Shoes.com

  • Belk
  • Jet

  • ShopStyle

  • Gilt

  • Home decor site Bellacor
  • T.J. Maxx

President Trump responded to the decision on his personal account:

It also appears Trump’s tweet was re-tweeted by the official Twitter account for the president, @POTUS

Press secretary Sean Spicer defended the president’s use of the @POTUS to lampoon a department chain. “This was less about his family’s business and an attack on his daughter,” Spicer said.

“For someone to take out their concern with his policies on a family member of his is not acceptable and a president has every right as a father to stand up for them.”

Since January, Ivanka Trump stepped away from the management and operations of her business. She has not commented on the boycott.
