Last night’s ding-dong State Of Origin opener proved a ratings bonanza for Nine pulling in 2.35 million viewers according to over night OzTam figures.

The opening match, won by NSW 28-4, is now the most watched program of 2017.

However, numbers were down 13 per cent on last year’s opener which managed 2.708 million.

In Sydney, 989,000 viewers tuned in for the game, followed by Brisbane with 808,000 and Melbourne’s 319,000.

The game saw Nine score a whopping 45.2 per cent audience share for the night. Seven could only manage 21.8 per cent, Ten 15.2 per cent, ABC 12.9 per cent and SBS 4.8 per cent.

Nine had a bumper night all round, with its news pulling 1.01 million and ACA had 912,000.

Over at Ten, MasterChef wasn’t too affected by viewers switching over to watch the footy and still managed to attract 704,000 cooking enthusiasts.

For Seven, its news bulletin had 1.13 million viewers followed by Home And Away with 725,000.

However, the ABC’s evening programs were all down a bit on usual numbers. The 7pm news bulletin fell under 700,000 snaring just 681,000. 7.30 could manage just 498,000, Anh’s Brush with Fame  had 462,000, The Weekly with Charlie Pickering  managed 456,000,  and You Can’t Ask That with 413,000.
