NT News Weighs In On Gay Marriage – “Do It Now”

Arguably more famous for its croc attack front pages and hilarious headlines, the venerable NT News has today weighed into the issue of gay marriage devoting its cover page to the issue with the headline “Do it now!”

It appears the newspaper has become exhausted like the rest of Australia, tired of politicians playing politics when the vast majority want the issue put sensibly, properly and intelligently to bed.

The cover reads: “The time for talking is over, The public are sick of bickering and political point-scoring about same sex marriage. The Northern Territory and Australia need to move forward. The legalisation of same-sex marriage is inevitable. It’s time to end this farce.”

Yesterday, the Turnbull government decided a postal vote on marriage equality will be held before November, if they are unable to secure support for a traditional plebiscite in Parliament this week.

Under the plan, the Australian Bureau of Statistics would conduct the postal vote with assistance from Australian Electoral Commission officers.

Ballot papers would begin arriving in letter boxes in for every Australian on the electoral role by September 12.

The question will be whether Australians believe the Marriage Act should be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry.  Australians would not be forced to vote on the issue and the postal plebiscite would be voluntary. A final result would be secured by November 15.
