The woes of Nine’s NRL Footy Show continue after it managed just 77,000 viewers in league-loving Sydney last night.
The show, which axed regular host Paul “Fatty” Vautin for Erin Molan for its 2018 season, has struggled since it debuted three weeks ago. The more female-friendly, advertiser-friendly approach clearly not winning over the diehards.
However, plummeting viewer numbers were the least of its problems last night as the live show became beset with technical issues.
Viewers were quick to take to social media to complain that the sound and signal were repeatedly cutting out. While others even had the temerity to call for Vautin’s return.
“They can’t even get the mics [sic] working. This is a joke,” one man wrote.
While another penned: “What a great start to the show, can’t even [hear] what they’re saying, stupid sound keeps cutting out.”
“Funny the broadcast goes to shit when the NRL Footy Show comes on,” railed another. “The NRL footy show sounds more like Forest Gump in his Vietnam speech.”
“Are you serious? Haven’t watched this show for a few years. Thought I’d give it a go… Nothing like the footy show of old… Never thought Fatty (Vautin) was any good but he held it all together… what a total disaster. Obviously Channel Nine you don’t want us to watch RL (rugby league) anymore,” said another.
While others were less impressed by Molan’s hosting style amid calls to “Bring back the Fat” – an obvious reference to the show’s former host.
“Why do we need to watch somebody who has never played the game and can only sit there and giggle. Just too annoying to watch anymore,” one disgruntled woman said of Molan’s presenting style.
