News Corp To Wield Axe On Photography Departments As Part Of Broader Job Cuts

News Corp Australia is set to lay off a large number of photographers across the capital cities as part of broader job cuts across the media company, according to reports.

Fairfax reported that up to 40 jobs in Melbourne’s photography department could be gone, while it’s predicted that Adelaide’s 24-strong photography team will be cut to eight.

However, a spokeswoman for News Corp told Fairfax the cuts wouldn’t be so drastic. Instead, News Corp will change from a “one hundred percent in-house model to a hybrid model where we retain a core team of specialist photographers combined with freelance and agency talent”.

“There will be redundancies as a result of these changes,” she said.

Furthermore, The Herald Sun (Melbourne), The Daily Telegraph (Sydney), the Courier Mail (Brisbane), the Adelaide Advertiser, and The Mercury (Hobart) are also expected to face further editorial cuts, according to Fairfax.
