The rumour mill is spinning into overdrive following the departure of WPP founder and CEO Sir Martin Sorrell last month.

While some were suggesting the likely choices were Jerry Buhlmann, the man who looks after Japan’s Denstu Aegis division, and Andrew Robertson, who heads up BBDO, news sites now have a new front-runner.

According to Business Insider, Oath CEO Tim Armstrong might be the hot pick.

Details surrounding the task of replacing Sorrell are scant, though according to BI, WPP is using executive recruiting firm Russell Reynolds to find a new CEO.

Though Armstrong may not be interested in taking the top job at the world’s largest advertising company.

The ex-AOL/Verizon CEO and former Google sales chief posted a Tweet seemingly quashing the rumours, which touted his excitement about growing Oath.

Sorrell’s resignation was the result of an investigation into the CEO’s apparent “personal misconduct”, a claim he vehemently denies.

Following his departure, a staff memo regarding his resignation was leaked to the public.

“We have weathered difficult storms in the past. And our highly talented people have always won through, always.”

“Nobody, either direct competitors or newly-minted ones can beat the WPP team, as long as you work closely together, whether by client and/or country or digitally,” one section read.
