Aussie surfer Mick Fanning has fast confirmed his ‘good guy’ credentials after he announced he was donating the $75,000 appearance fee he garnered from an interview with Nine’s 60 Minutes last night to a fellow surfer.

Fanning – who beat off his own shark attack a fortnight ago – has pledged the total sum to surfer Matthew Lee who was similarly attacked by a shark off the NSW north coast last month.

The three-time world champ famously beat off his attacker during a pro event in Jeffreys Bay in South Africa. However, Lee was less fortunate after both his legs were savagely mauled while bodyboarding at Lighthouse Beach near Ballina on 2 July.

Nine boss David Gyngell has also pledged a further $25,000 to Lee’s ongoing treatment. Lee is reportedly still recovering in the Gold Coast University Hospital and is undergoing more surgery.

Lee’s family has posted a thank you message to both Fanning and Channel Nine on social media. It read: “Mick Fanning and David Gyngell, no words can describe how grateful we are for the generous donation.”

During last night’s interview with 60 Minutes Fanning revealed he would be seeking professional advice to conquer the demons and fears following his recent great white near-miss.
