The finale of Nine’s reality show When Love Comes to Town just missed out on the top 20 most watched shows for the night.

The final town on the road and the reunion catch up with the girls and some of their loves ended up with 536,000 viewers in a five city metro last night, according to OzTam preliminary ratings.

Since its debut of 868,000 viewers in May, media analyst Steve Allen at Fusion Strategy believes the show had been a mishap for Nine.

“When it went to air we looked at it and we commented at the time that it was the first misstep that Nine made this year,” he told B&T.

“It was a mistake in our view. The reason it was a mistake was that it really wasn’t substantially different from Farmer Wants a Wife.

“They had some tricks, but basically it just was a format that we already knew.”

B&T has contacted Nine and is awaiting a response.

Melbournians were most intrigued by the finale with 450,000 tuning in, with Sydneysiders coming in second with 428,000 viewers.

Nine came in second in terms of the overall total combined share of free-to-air viewers with OzTam recording a share of 24.3%. Seven won the night overall with 35.7%.

Looking towards the rest of the shows from last night House Rules on Seven took centre stage with 1.63 million viewers.

Ten’s MasterChef was close to the million mark with 968,000 viewers and coming in eighth place.
