As we settle back down to work and contemplate what 2015 has in store, social media agency We Are Social has taken a few moments to reflect on 2014 highlights in terms social and search.

Here is our brief look at how the major platforms highlighted their achievements in 2014.

Twitter

Twitter has created an interactive website featuring its most memorable moments of the year from the worlds of Entertainment,  News & Politics and Sports. From single Tweets to hashtags that sparked global conversations, it features the Oscars, Sochi 2014 and campaigns like #BringBackOurGirls and #HeForShe. It also asks some of 2014’s most notable celebrities and influencers to share their favourite Twitter moments from the last year.

Facebook

Facebook has been reflecting  on its challenges and triumphs over the last year and has created this short video to celebrate its key moments. Whether it’s ice bucket challenges, the World Cup, key political moments or lost legends, it’s a great look back on how Facebook has connected us globally in 2014.

YouTube

It’s been a pretty amazing 2014 for YouTube . To commemorate it, the platform created this music video that celebrates the moments, memes, and people that helped make it such a great year for them.

Google

It’s been a busy year for Google  – in 2014 we searched trillions of times. Google has tried to capture what all these searches say about us in this video. Pop culture features heavily of course, but it also highlights how we searched to learn more about global concerns (e.g. ebola), the realms of space and science, and more collective interests. You can explore the subjects featured in more detail on Google’s Year in Search website and follow the conversation using the hashtag #YearInSearch

Tumblr

Tumblr published its 2014 Year in Review a collection of “amazing things you made” over the last year. It summarises activity from hundreds of blogs, thousands of posts and trillions of notes, according to Tumblr.

Showcasing the best and most popular content from the platform, as well as highlighting a number of ‘ones to watch’, its multiple categories range from the most reblogged food  (cake, if you’re wondering) and authors to watch, to the top posts in categories like tech, beauty and health & fitness  Overall, it’s a pretty comprehensive look at what’s caught our attention online in 2014.

Bring on 2015!
