Family Feud host Grant Denyer has confirmed that after 1,200 episodes the primetime game show will have a rest from being aired on Network Ten.

Announcing the news on 2Day FM’s breakfast show, which he hosts, Denyer admitted Ten was “probably guilty of driving [Family Feud] into the ground a little bit too early”.

“Six days a week, twice a day, plus All Star episodes – we might have squeezed that lemon a little bit too much,” he said.

“It’s obviously been a huge success for myself and for Ten for four years. We only thought we’d get two years out of it, so it was really lovely to stretch it to four.”

Grant said Ten was resting Family Feud so he could work on new shows.

“The gameshow host is not a tag I enjoy,” he said.

A Ten spokesperson told B&T: “Family Feud has been an important part of our schedule for the past four years, but we feel it is time to rest the show.

“It will be put on hold later this year and we will be announcing an exciting new game show very soon. We will also have some exciting news about Grant Denyer’s new show on Ten soon.”

The news comes after months of speculation that Family Feud was on the chopping block at Ten, with the free-to-air broadcaster now banking on a big-budget studio game show to be announced within the next week, according to Fairfax.

Like most reality TV, the show will be modelled off a successful international format and target families. Fairfax has reported that the show will air on Sundays and potentially other nights, with its debut to come in the last quarter of 2018.

Rumour has it that the program might be an Aussie adaptation of British game show Pointless.
