Google Takes A Look At The 2015 Trending Christmas Gifts

Google has released data about the top gifts trending on its Search bar in the United States- it looks like our American counterparts are searching for smart TVs, drones and adult onesies.

Americans are searching for 90s clothing including bomber jackets and Levi jeans.

“Looking at this year’s top-trending apparel list you’ll be forgiven for thinking we’ve gone back to the 90s,” said Google data content and insights guy Brad Johnsmeyer.

“Not only have we seen searches for these 90s fashion trends more than double over the past year, each city has their own 90s fashion item of choice—shoppers in Chicago are more interested in Levis while shoppers in New York are on the hunt for Adidas Superstar shoes,” Johnsmeyer said.

But not only are people searching for their 90s fashion fantasies, but this year Google is seeing a rise in adult onesies which are trending even faster than last year’s fashion choice ‘ugly Christmas sweater’.

The push for purchasing drones, which Amazon have been advertising, are up 80 per cent over the past year, and for some reason they’re highest in California.

After the Lexus commercial of its prototype hoverboard and the crazy hoopla over Back To The Future II 20th anniversary; searches for ‘hoverboards’ are up more than 500 per cent since July. They are so popular this year, hoverboards have overtaken searches for drones.

It also wouldn’t be Christmas if something from Star Wars: The Force Awakens didn’t make an appearance. The droid BB-8 made the top five in Google searches.

With more smart models on the market than ever, both smart watches and smart TVs topped our list of trending electronics this year—with “smart watch” searches seeing a particularly phenomenal growth, up nearly 300 per cent compared to last year.
