Getty Images Launches Desktop App

Getty Images has launched a new desktop app designed for people who are passionate about pictures.

The free app called Getty Images Stream offers continuously updated, curated streams of the latest local and international news, sport and entertainment imagery. Now available for Mac OS X Yosemite (version 10.10), the announcement follows the recent launch of Stream for iPhone and iPad on the iOS 8 update, and introduces a new wallpaper feature.

With Stream, Getty Images makes its imagery easily and legally shareable and embeddable via mobile devices and, now, desktop. Stream follows the debut of Getty Images’ embed feature, which enables users to share one of the largest and most comprehensive image collections in the world for non-commercial use on blogs and social media. Embedded images have surpassed one billion impressions since the feature launched earlier this year. stream_osx_ondevice_wallpaper Stream uses Getty Images’ API to aggregate content and includes these key features:

  • Streaming: Easy-to-navigate curated photo streams across different categories – latest, news, sport, entertainment and archival.
  • Wallpaper: A new feature for Mac OS X, choose and favorite images to display on Mac desktop.
  • Slideshow: Play slideshows of any stream on Mac or Apple devices using Apple AirPlay, including Apple TV.
  • Embed and share: Share an image directly to Facebook and Twitter simply by clicking the ‘share’ icon. To embed in a blog, click the ‘copy’ icon and paste the embed code into a blog or webpage.
