Well-known business tycoon Alan Bond has passed away due to heart complications in a WA hospital. He was 77.

Bond was one of the former owners of the Nine Network, famously buying it from Kerry Packer in 1987 for $1 billion.

However 1992 saw Bond declare bankruptcy in which Packer ended up buying back Nine.

During the time Packer stated: “You only get one Alan Bond in your lifetime, and I’ve had mine.”

Bond also sat through an interview with Andrew Denton in Sydney in which he described the dealings around the Nine Network.

Bond’s son John paid tribute to his father, with the ABC reporting: “To a lot of people, Dad was a larger-than-life character who started with nothing and did so much,” he said.

“He really did experience the highs and lows of life.

“To us, however, he was just Dad – a father who tried his best to be the best dad he could.”
