The Edge 96.ONE reveals new on-air star

The Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) dedicated Urban music station, The Edge 96.ONE’s nation-wide search for fresh on-air talent has found a rising star in Nikolina Koevska.

The announcement was made live on-air Friday morning with Mike E & Emma on 96.ONE. The suspense was palpable as the top two finalists, Nikolina and Yaz, each opened an envelope with their name on it – but only one contained a contract for the on-air gig inside.

Nikolina Koevska, from Putney, was chosen from hundreds of entries from across Australia all hoping to land their dream on-air job. Though she studied commerce and always thought she’d end up in the corporate world, Nikolina’s love of the media won out in the end and she is ready to give up her awesome job at Macquarie Bank for her dream gig.

The Edge’s Rising Star

“I am overwhelmed and so excited about this opportunity! I have had so much support from family and friends, it has been amazing. It means so much to me that I will be starting my career at such a great place as The Edge! I have listened to this station since I got my L Plates! I can’t wait to delve into what this industry has prepared for me and give it my all!” Nikolina said.

During the Edge Star competition, finalists were put through their paces with on-air interviews and challenges to showcase the creativity, enthusiasm, passion and talent that they would bring to the station.

And though there can only be one Edge Star, it’s not all bad news for runner-up Yaz, as Edge’s Program Director Charlie Fox explains:

“It was a great contest and we really found it hard to pick a winner between Nikolina and Yaz. They were neck and neck right until the end, in fact we really wish we could have changed the rules and hired them both! In the end though, we thought Nik just sounded a little better on air. But we were very impressed with Yaz’s DJ skills, so we have made him an ‘Edge Mixmaster’ which means he will also be part of the station with his mixes in Club Edge, both on air and in the clubs, so it all worked out pretty well. Sincere congratulations to both Nikolina and Yaz, you’ll be hearing a lot more from them both on The Edge and iHeartRadio,” Charlie said.

The Edge 96.ONE is owned by the Australian Radio Network and is a dedicated Urban music station targeting an 18-29 year old demographic and broadcasts from Sydney’s Greater West. The Edge 96.ONE can also be heard in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide on DAB+ radios and online nationally via iHeartRadio.
