The ABC last night proved that Aussie TV audiences still love a laugh with the return of Rob Stitch’s Utopia pulling its biggest ever audience figure with 842,000 viewers according to OzTam figures.

In fact, Aunty had a top night all round with Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell winning its time slot with 724,000 viewers.

However, the evening’s surprise packet was MasterChef that soared to 955,000 viewers namely thanks to no Ninja Warrior on Nine.

In fact, with no Ninja, Nine was pulled back to the pack and only just pipped Seven for bragging rights last night.

Nine won the night with the closest of margins over Seven taking 26.5 per cent viewer share compared to Seven’s 25.5 per cent. Ten had an impressive 20.6 per cent, the ABC 17.9 per cent and SBS managed 9.4 per cent.

Nine’s news was the most watched show of the night with 1.07 million; however, it’s Ninja replacement Britain’s Got Talent could only muster 609,000.

Again, Ten had a stellar night admirably led by MasterChef, while Offspring (646,000) and The Project (557,000) also did well.

SBS’s best was Flying Scotsman with Robson Green with 256,000.
