Which Brands Won The First Presidential Debate?

Yesterday in the US was the first presidential debate between Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump, the 90 minute debate was the first time the two candidates had shared the stage. Here are just some of the brands that jumped on the chance to interject at the most-watched political battle ever.

The debate was held at Hofstra University Campus, but the real fight was on social media where Twitter live-streamed the debate. At the end of the night, there were over five million tweets around the hashtag #DebateNight and over a million tweets around the hashtag #DebateNight2016, according to Amobee.

“Twitter is where the 2016 presidential election is happening every single day,” said Anthony Noto, Twitter’s chief financial officer. “Livestreaming the debates with Bloomberg combined with the live commentary and conversation on Twitter will create a one-screen experience at the centre of the action unlike any other.

What brands jumped into the social chatter:

When Trump said: “I have a great company. I have a tremendous income. And the reason I say that is not in a braggadocious way. It’s because it’s about time that this country had somebody running it that has an idea about money.

When Trump was talking about the DNC hack, he said Clinton was lying about Russia being behind it: “She’s saying Russia, Russia, Russia… It could also be China… It could also be somebody sitting on their bed who weighs 400 pounds. You don’t know who hacked into the DNC.”
