Apple Takes Top Spot For Second Month Running In Facebook’s April Hot Topics

The latest data from Facebook has revealed Apple’s iPhone 7 remains top of mind for the platform’s users, continuing its conversation domination since March.

Excitement and speculation grew amongst men and women in anticipation of the smart phone’s awaited release. Land Rover also put in a strong performance, closely following Apple to take second place for the most talked about brand.

Older users in particular were very engaged, especially during the announcement of the new Evogue, which sparked widespread interest and conversation. Toyota, NASA and the iPhone 6 took out the remaining three positions to round out the top five.

On Instagram, skincare company Proactiv was successful in connecting to a young female audience with its #TRUEselfie campaign, coming in as one of the most talked about brands for April.

In close competition was clothing brand Marks & Spencer, who were a hit amongst a younger female audience. The announcement of its online launch in Australia got women talking as did news of two new fashion collections.

The occasion was the highest-trending topic across both platforms as Aussies acknowledged the nation’s past and present servicemen and shared the “Ode of Remembrance,” an extract from Laurence Binyon’s classic poem “For the Fallen.”

The passing of legendary American musician and actor Prince trended highest amongst an older female audience on Facebook and Instagram. His iconic hit “Purple Rain” was frequently mentioned on both platforms as people paid tribute to his life and career.

Superheroes also remained a popular talking point as Australians prepared for a slew of new film releases, including Marvel’s latest instalment, “Captain America: Civil War.” But it wasn’t just big screen releases that captured attention. Role-playing video game “Dark Souls III” got young males talking on Instagram, and Aussies of all ages flocked to both platforms to discuss the return of the HBO megahit, “Game of Thrones.”
