Network Ten has confirmed it has pulled the pin on Rosanne after the star of the US show issued a racist post on Twitter.

Rosanne Barr compared one of former US president Barack Obama’s advisers, Valerie Jarrett, to an ape in a tweet on Monday, which has since been deleted.

Barr’s tweet was in response to a thread accusing Jarrett – who is black and was born in Iran to US parents – was involved in spying and cover-ups with the CIA.

Barr later tweeted an apology for making “a bad joke”.

A Ten spokesperson said in a statement this morning that the network is “appalled and disgusted with Ms Barr’s racist tweet and has removed Roseanne from Ten and Eleven, effective immediately”.

The ABC network in the US has cancelled the new series of Roseanne, with president Channing Dungey describing Barr’s tweet as “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values”.
