Amber Harrison Calls $330,000 Lawyer Windfall “Fake News”

Amber Harrison has taken to Twitter to debunk claims her previous lawyer in her then sexual harassment claim against Channel Seven had agreed to forgo some $330,000 in outstanding legal bills.

Harrison has called the reports “fake news” and revealed that no deal has been done.

The news of the arrangement first surfaced on a number of news websites including News.com.au and Channel Seven last Friday.

According to the reports, her initial lawyers, Harmers Workplace Lawyers, who represented Harrison when she attempted to sue Seven for sexual harassment following her affair with CEO Tim Worner, agreed to forgo the existing monies. In turn, Harrison agreed she would not sue Harmers for a perceived mishandling of the case.

Whether Harrison will still have to stump-up for the $330,000 is unclear.

Harrison is still trying to sue Seven for failing to provide a safe workplace in the Victorian Supreme Court. She is now represented by prominent QC Julian Burnside on a pro bono basis.

Harrison is also attempting to have a court-ordered gag removed in the NSW Supreme Court.

In previous rulings a judge had ordered Seven and Harrison into mediation, however, it remains unclear if this ever happened.

Previous media reports have suggested Harrison is seeking a payout as high as $2 million, despite having been paid $366,000 when she left Seven in 2014. Seven chiefs – including chairman Kerry Stokes – have repeatedly said they would not pay their former employee another cent.

The sticking point appears to be documents and laptops in Harrison’s possession that she removed whilst employed at the broadcaster. Harrison was ordered to surrender them when she left the business, however, has refused to do so. Seven presently has a gag order preventing Harrison from publicly airing any of the contents or from speaking to journalists.
