Alisa Bowen Quits As News Corp’s CTO

News Corp’s chief technology officer, Alisa Bowen, has surprisingly quit her role after just a year in the job.

Bowen will leave the role and return to the US to take up a digital media position with the Walt Disney Company.

Her departure was announced in a memo to staff by News’ executive chairman Michael Miller. The statement read in full:

Dear colleagues,

Today it is with mixed emotions I announce that Alisa Bowen, our chief technology officer, has decided to leave the company.

Alisa will depart News Corp Australia at the end of this month to return to the United States where she has accepted a role as Senior Vice President Digital Media with The Walt Disney Company International. Alisa joined News Corp Australia in 2013 from Dow Jones in New York where she was chief product officer.

While I am saddened to see Alisa go, I understand and respect her decision to pursue an exciting new career opportunity in another industry. Our loss is Hollywood’s gain.

We will miss her skills, leadership and vision. She is a strong, principled executive whose success in leading our technology, digital and product teams has been significant. I am proud that under Alisa’s stewardship, our technology capabilities have evolved dramatically and are now world-class.

I know how greatly she is respected and admired by her team, and valued by her peers. She leaves with my best wishes to

her and

family for the future.

As a result of Alisa’s departure, we will realign our digital product and technology operations.

Our digital product and platforms team, led by Mark Drasutis, will now become part of News DNA. So too will the consumer, circulation and marketing technology team led by Clive Parsons.  Mark and Clive will now report to Nicole Sheffield, managing director, News DNA.

Dominic Hatfield, head of technology transformation and head of shared technology, will take over as Chief Technology Officer, with responsibility for all areas of technology in the business and for the time being, will report to me.

Please join me in congratulating Dominic on his new role and wishing Alisa every success for the future.

Regards,

Michael
