Ad Telling Men To “Gift Your Wife A Maid” Sparks Outrage

A new maid service in India, Book My Bai, has received a large amount of attention online for its ad that said “Diamonds are useless! Gift your wife a maid”.

The ad was reportedly for the Diwali festival, the Hindu festival of lights which is this month, where many exchange gifts.

While the ad has had many social media users questioning whether the ad is sexist, the BBC reported the website’s co-founder Anupam Sinhal said people were reading into the ad too much.

“We did not mean to offend women and it was meant to be taken in a light-hearted manner,” he told the BBC.

Twitter has been divided in what they think about the ad, with some claiming it sexist and others siding with Sinhal’s belief.
