Marvel Action Heroes Unite For News Corp Papers

Look out News Corp readers, because your usual morning paper is about to get a Hulk-sized comic book collectable addition, launching with both metro and regional papers this month.

From Sunday July 17 in WA, and then nationally from the following weekend, News Corp Australia is launching the Marvel Ultimate Super Hero Comic Book Collection; a 14-day collectable of Aussie first comic books that tell the stories of superheroes such as Iron Man, Thor, Spider-Man and Hulk.

Launching Saturday July 23 (TAS, SA and NT) and Sunday July 24 (NSW, QLD and VIC) readers can nab a different comic book for 14 days with purchase of any of News Corp Australia’s metro and regional newspapers.

The first in the collection is Spider-Man, which, together with a Collector’s Case, comes free with each purchase of the newspaper from participating newsagents as well as Woolworths and select IGA supermarkets across Australia. Subsequent comic books will be available for $2.60 each ($2.50 in Tassie) over the following two-week period.

News Corp Australia’s managing director – metro and regional publishing Damian Eales said, “Super heroes are a part of growing up as they inspire and motivate kids to achieve the impossible.

“We’re proud to give families an affordable way to get their hands on this exclusive comic book collection for their little heroes. Marvel characters have no limit in terms of their popularity and this collection has been specifically chosen to appeal to super hero fans everywhere; boys and girls; young and old.”

The full collection includes the following comic books: Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, Nick Fury, Ant-Man, The Avengers, Black Widow, Captain America, Hawkeye, Guardians of the Galaxy, Wasp, Ultimate Spider-Man Team Heroes, Falcon and Hulk.

The campaign is being supported with a national TVC, social media advertisements and owned media coverage across print and digital. A significant publicity campaign is also planned to celebrate the launch with News Corp Australia hosting MARVELLOUS school holiday launch events in Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Darwin.

In partnership with Nova Entertainment, the events saw about 200 kids in each state dress up as their favourite superhero for a morning of fun climbing, bouncing and playing with Marvel super heroes at venues including Latitude (Melbourne and Adelaide), SkyZone (Sydney and Brisbane) and KJS Entertainment (Darwin).
