Network Ten has taken the troll-baiting approach of launching a competition to name its new mid-morning show starring Ita Buttrose and Joe Hildebrand on Twitter, and taken a dig at rivals in the process.
The network launched the competition this morning via the @tenmorningshow hashtag saying they would “love to avoid the word morning completely” in the title.
So far suggestions have included ‘Lady and The Tramp’, ‘Happy Fun Wake Up Time with @Joe_Hildebrand and Super-Friend Ita’ and, from DJ Tim Ross, ‘Ita and the Funky Bunch’, with 'Butt Brand' also thrown in.
Others include ‘The Crack’, ‘The Joker and the Queen’ and, in a nod to the canned mid-morning chat show, ‘The Circle’, while another wag, when “reminded” the show will have five hosts, asked “Is the Pentagon taken?”.
Ten announced last month it is set to revamp its morning slot after cancelling its ailing show last December, and bought across the king of morning TV Adam Boland from Seven to mastermind the move.
The new show starring Buttrose and Hildebrand will air in the mid-morning slot, after a new breakfast show, with the competition spiel saying: “It will generate a real conversation with both a live studio audience and the best of social media. Our driving theme is to make the show smart and fun – the exact thing missing right now from morning television.”
They have also announced a new family entertainment show called A League of Their Own based on the popular format of the same name running in the UK, which will star tennis legend Pat Cash and Olympic swimmer Eamon Sullivan as well as the “cr√®me de la cr√®me” of international sports people.
It is another move to shift the demographics of the traditionally younger-oriented station, under the leadership of new CEO Hamish Mclennan.
