The Voice hands Nine win despite lower debut

The return of The Voice grabbed top spot in the overnight ratings with 1.828m viewers, but failed to achieve the heights of its debut last year for Nine.

It dominated Seven’s My Kitchen Rules (1.406m) in the 6.30pm slot, with the Logies Red Carpet arrivals (1.57m) at 8pm also outrating the show which has given its rival dominance in recent weeks.

However, last year the show managed to snare more than 2m viewers in its first three nights on the OzTam preliminary ratings.

Ten’s best shot was The Biggest Loser Next Generation which posted a creditable 849,000 in the 7.30pm slot, with Modern Family getting 630,000 viewers in the competitive 7pm time.

The broadcast of the Logie Awards ceremony which averaged 1.093m, gave Nine’s main channel a victory with a 31.6% audience share, ahead of Seven’s 24.1%, with Ten taking 11%, but beating ABC1 on 9.4%.
