Samsung and the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) have collaborated to launch The Propellor Project, an online platform and funding to support social-change initiatives for young Australians.

The projects aims to link young people (12-25 years old) and them to engage and connect with their schools and communities.

Fourteen youth-led initiatives received a $1000 grant to kick start the project and support the growth of community programs, such as suicide prevention, mentoring programs, creative outlets and school-based initiatives.

From today, funds from The Propeller Project will be made available to other young Australians’ social-change projects with one $500 grant awarded each week.

“Through The Propeller Project, we will be able to help young people build stronger connections with their communities while developing skills for their future pathways,” Jan Owen AM, CEO of FYA, said.

“We know their local communities impact what young people believe they can do with their lives. Strong networks have significant benefits for young people such as better physical and mental health, success at school and better employment outcomes.”

Anor Lenior, CMO of Samsung Electronics Australia, added: “Young people today are digital natives who use the internet as a tool to create social and environmental change. Knowing this, we believe that The Propeller Project has the ability to spark a wave of positive movement among young Australians, no matter how big or small an idea.”
