It was a battle of the reality shows at 7.30pm as Nine’s The Voice and Seven’s House Rules wrestled for the top place on Monday night.

Viewers seemed to prefer singing over renovations though as The Voice snagged first place as the most watched show with 1.663 million viewers once again cracking the million mark, according to OzTam preliminary ratings.

House Rules had to settle for second place with 1.292 million viewers.

Ten’s reality cooking show Masterchef however, also at 7.30pm, fell under the pump, finding itself in 13th place with 735,000 viewers.

The number of viewers for last night’s elimination episode was a stark contrast to the previous week’s broadcast that saw the episode push past one million for the first time since the launch.

It seemed many viewers kept the TV on after Nine’s broadcast of The Voice at 7.30pm as the two repeat episodes of The Big Bang Theory found places in the top 20.

The first episode at 9.11pm (according to the YourTv guide) pulled in 1.043 million viewers , however the second episode only managed to snatch up 779,000 viewers.

Nine won the night overall with a total combined share of 32.7% of all free-to-air viewers , with its primary channel seeing 26.2% of the network’s share.

Seven came a close second with a total share of 30%, its main station grabbing 22.5%.

ABC was in third place with a total share of 17.3% with the network’s most watched non-news show being Australian Story, pulling in 736,000 viewers and finding 12th place, just ahead of Masterchef.

ABC1 saw a total share of 12.7%.

Ten came in fourth place with a total share of 15.5%, 10.7% going to the network’s primary channel.

SBS came fifth with a total share of 4.6%. SBS One had a 3.5% share.
