Robin Parkes has resigned as executive director of Magazine Publishers of Australia.
Parkes, who joined the MPA 18 months ago on a 12-month contract, was charged with revitalising the magazine industry association.
During this time, she has relaunched the association with new branding and a new website, developed the ‘Mags move me’ ad campaign, launched the real time magazine performance measurement tool MAPP, and represented the magazine industry during the launch of EMMA.
Announcing Parkes’ resignation in a statement, MPA chairman Matthew Stanton said: “Robin has made an invaluable contribution to the magazine industry, helping to put the MPA back on the map as the pro-active and united industry voice.
“We recognised that we needed to do more as a consolidated industry body to promote the innovation and investment MPA member companies continually put into the progression of established magazine brands, and the launch of new titles, and Robin has done an outstanding job promoting the sector, stimulating and strengthening our presence in the Australian market.
“On behalf of the MPA members I would like to thank Robin for her dedication and hard work. We are sorry to see her go but understand her decision to move on and appreciate that we had her commitment for 18 months.”
A search is now underway for her replacement.
Parkes said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with and representing the magazine industry. While magazines, like all media, face challenges, it is a vibrant, much-loved medium full of passionate people.
“I would also like to acknowledge the great support I have received from Bauer Media, Pacific Magazines and NewsLifeMedia in my role.”
