Competition is heating up between Nine’s iconic renovation show The Block, and Seven’s new rival House Rules, with the shows fighting for the top non-news ranking last night.
The Block, now in its seventh season, scored the most viewers of any non-news show yesterday evening with an audience of 1.16 million in third place, according to OzTam’s preliminary overnights.
But House Rules was only 100,000 viewers behind, coming in fourth with 1.066 million. The show premiered in mid May to a modest audience of 803,000 in 11th place.
Ten’s MasterChef slipped lower down the ratings ladder, last night taking out 19th spot with only 489,000 viewers – less than The Project, which drew 519,000.
ABC1’s Paper Giants: Magazine Wars didn’t get a look in in the top 20 this week, after premiering to 846,000 last week.
Nine News won the night with 1.33 million, followed by Seven News on 1.22 million. A Current Affair was the only other show to score in excess of a million viewers, but Today Tonight, ABC News, The Footy Show and 7:30 also scored within the top 10.
Nine secured the largest share of audience with 32.6%, ahead of Seven with 26%, Ten with 18.5% and the ABC with 16.5%. SBS pulled 6.4%.
