Puberty Blues may have trended on Twitter last night but it was far from the most watched program, with the audience for the second season opener down more than 300,000 people on its 2012 debut.
At 8.30pm last night Puberty Blues in just 538,000 viewers, according to OzTam’s preliminary metro ratings. In the 25-54 age bracket the program was the eleventh most watched.
The debut of the second season comes more than a year after the first kicked off 925,000 viewers on August 15 2012.
Puberty Blues’ ratings will have been impacted by popular reality formats My Kitchen Rules and The Block: Fans v Faves with both not wrapping up until 8.45/8.51pm last night, taking roughly 20 minutes off the 70s drama’s 8.30pm kick off.
My Kitchen Rules was the evening’s most watched program with 1.609 million viewers and proved a strong jumping board for The Blacklist which won the 8.30pm slot with 869,000 viewers.
The Block: Fans v Faves was the evening’s fourth most watched program with 1.092 million fans tuning in with 700,000 watching Inside Story at 8.51pm.
Puberty Blues did beat the ABC’s Spicks and Specks (443,000) and The Moodys.
Ten won a 15.3% share of all free-to-air viewers last night, with 9.4% going to the network’s primary channel.
The result puts Ten in fourth place behind commercial rivals Nine and Seven, as well as the ABC.
Seven won the night with a total 35.1% and 26.4% for its main channel. Nine sat in second place on a combined 28.6% and 21.7% for its primary channel.
In third was the ABC on 17% with 10.7% going oABC1. At the bottom sat SBS on a total 4.1% with SBS ONE taking 3.3%.
