Channel Nine took out the top three spots and the evening again in the OzTam preliminary free-to-air metro ratings last night, although the ABC also had a relatively strong showing for the evening.

Although it only took third position with 14% of share, the ABC featured seven shows in the top 20, with its traditional back-to-back news and current affairs evening doing the national broadcaster proud and proving once again that Monday night is the thinking person’s TV night. Mind you this evening it stands to do even better as the nation tunes in for the national horror show that is the Federal Budget.

The ABC started its run with the 7.00pm news gathering an audience of 1.01 million. It then had relatively good performances through the 7.30 Report (705,000), Australian Story (802,000), Four Corners (619,000), Media Watch (567,000) and finally Q&A (560,000).

However despite its good showing, the ABC was beaten by Channel Nine with 26.7% of the total FTA audience, and Channel Seven, with 20.5% of share.

The Voice was again the evenings top show with 1.58 million viewers, followed by Nine's 6pm news with an audience of 1.38 million. The Block Sky High completed out Nine’s winning triumvirate with 1.28 million watchers.

Channel Seven’s best performer was its 6pm news bulletin with 1.26 million viewers and fourth position overall. Seven also had the best performing drama show for the evening in its perennial favourite Home & Away, which took out eighth position for the evening with 889,000 viewers.

Channel Ten managed 10.3% of total audience and SBS chalked up 4.0% of the total free-to-air audience.
