News Corp promotes Damian Eales to marketing role

Former Westpac and David Jones marketer Damian Eales is set to take the top marketing role at News Corporation Australia as Corin Dimopoulos prepares to depart the media company.

Eales is currently strategic partnership director for the company, and has been fronting a series of Enhanced Media Metrics Australia (EMMA) panels for them.

Dimopoulos joined the company from fellow Murdoch-controlled group BSkyB in the UK last April, and in his 18-months has picked up several PANPA awards for marketing work, and reduced the marketing costs for the company.

He said: “It’s been great to lead the group marketing function at a time of such change in the industry – where increasingly customers are looking at new ways of engaging with our content and where News is developing new products to support great journalism.”

Eales’ appointment marks his return to marketing roles after parting ways with Westpac in July 2012. He joined News in March for the partnership role.

CEO Julian Clarke said:  “Damian will oversee our national marketing initiatives and also work closely with our business units to drive circulation and digital subscription revenue.”

Eales added: “It’s a great honour to have been asked by Julian to take on the role.  I am really looking forward to marketing our print and digital assets to Australians, supporting our journalism and delivering audiences to advertisers.”

The change is effective from September 11.
