MasterChef finale rallies, fails to beat reality opponents

The first day offspring saw the final of MasterChef this year, but the show failed to topple rivals The X Factor and Australia’s Got Talent despite one of its best ratings performances of the year.

Ten’s flagship reality show got 1.057m for the extended run between 7.30pm – 9.40pm, but could not muster enough to beat off X Factor, which won the night with 1.36m from 630pm – 8.30pm, and AGT, fourth on 1.124m running from 6.30pm – 8pm.

While Bones was reported as sixth in the OzTam overnight figures it will probably fall when the overrunning X Factor time slot is adjusted.

Seven News was second with 1.306m, and Nine News third with 1.275m, whilst Underbelly: Squizzy fell to 489,000 for its first episode and 381,000 for it second showing.

Those shows gave Seven a commanding presence for the night with 26.1% audience share, Nine was second on 20.7%, Ten third on 14.2% and ABC1 following on 12%, with SBS last on 3.2%.
