Bauer Media has taken control of the MasterChef brand, signalling the end of Network Ten’s custom publishing partnership with NewsLifeMedia.

The new arrangement will see Bauer, Ten and MasterChef production company Shine Australia partner to produce a series of collectible cookbooks called the MasterChef Collectibles.

Bauer has no current plans to revive MasterChef Magazine (pictured) the monthly title published by NewsLifeMedia for over two years from May 2010 – which was axed last November due to sinking circulation.

NewsLifeMedia said at the time of close that it was looking to move the magazine to a ‘new publishing model’ which would better correlate with the timing of the MasterChef TV series on Channel Ten in 2013.

But when contacted by B&T this morning NewsLifeMedia said the publisher’s association with the cooking franchise had officially ended.

“We reviewed [the partnership] and it wasn’t economically viable for us. We wish them all the best,” a NewsLife spokesperson told B&T.

Shine Australia also confirmed the association had ended last year.

The MasterChef Collectibles three part series will be published in line with MasterChef series five coming soon to Ten, and feature iconic recipes from past and present contestants, guest chefs and tips and tricks from the masters.

Network Ten chief programming officer, Beverley McGarvey, said: "MasterChef Australia is synonymous with creating some of the most talked about, and most sought after, dishes in Australia. The MasterChef Collectibles cookbook series is the perfect kitchen accompaniment to enable foodies and fans alike to bring quintessential MasterChef dishes to life."

Gerry Reynolds, publishing director of Bauer Media, said: “Bauer Media is thrilled to be taking to market a whole new concept for MasterChef publishing. These three books encompass the very DNA of the series and are designed to be collectibles that the whole family can embrace. We are very proud to be evolving the MasterChef publishing offering with Shine Australia and Network Ten.”

The first cookbook, The Ultimate Home Cook, will be on sale 24 June with a cover price of $11.95.
