Long standing Media Watch host Jonathan Holmes, who bowed earlier this month after five years hosting the ABC Show, is joining Fairfax as a columnist.
Holmes (pictured), famous for his format of castigating the worst journalism in Australia, will now be on the other side of fence and in the firing line of the man who replaced him in the Media Watch hotseat, journalist Paul Barry.
Holmes will write regular columns on the media and politics, including a weekly analysis during the election campaign.
“His weekly column on the media and political reporting will be a must,” said the SMH this morning.
Recently, Holmes stated: “At this stage I’m just going to see what happens inside me and outside me. I don’t feel a huge (need to) rush into anything else at the moment.”
Holmes appointment provides some good news to the end of a rough week for Fairfax following the surprise departure of Brett Clegg, head of the Australian Financial Review Group, to News Corp earlier in the week.
