How engaged are your staff?

The Australian and New Zealand workforce is full of unhappy and bored employees, with a massive 69% describing themselves as ‘not engaged employees’, Forrester research has found.

According to Forrester an engaged employee is more likely to stay at their company for the foreseeable future, to recommend their company’s products and to recommend a job at their company to a friend or family member.

But only 31% of employed Australians and New Zealanders described themselves as ‘engaged employees’ in Forrester Research’s Forrsights Workforce Employee Q4 2013 survey.

The result is just above the Asia Pacific region’s result of 29%.

India is the country with the highest percentage of engaged employees at 42%, while Japan has the lowest at 10%.

The research found that employees who are engaged are more likely to agree with the statement that they ‘feel recognized for their efforts put in’ and ‘challenged at work every day’.

Forrester asked respondents to answer statements such as: ‘I love my job’, ‘It’s clear to me how my work contributes to my company’s overall success’, and ‘I fell recognised for the effort I put in’.

Only 14% of Japanese workers said they felt recognised for their work, compared to 52% in China and 61% in India.
