Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year in Asia breaks 1.5m

The comedy duo Hamish and Andy raked in audiences last night with the debut of their Gap Year: Asia series. The episode that featured the launch of the country’s biggest rocket at the Thai Rocket Festival aired on Channel Nine and drew an audience of 1.566m, according to the preliminary Oztam ratings. It was a good evening for the network with The Block Sky High taking second highest-rated spot with 1.485m – no longer having to war with Seven's House Rules – giving the network 32.8% audience share.

ABC’s popular scheduling of the news, 7.30, Media Watch, Four Corners, Australian Story and Q&A saw the channel’s audience share jump to 20.7% from its usual of around 12 to 15%. The news and 7.30 were its highest rating spots taking 992,000 and 870,000 viewers respectively, while Q&A took 768,000.

Seven had 25.2% of lounge rooms last night with Today Tonight its most popular spot taking 1.640m after the news which had 1.298m.

 Channel Ten only had one show in Oztam’s top 20 most popular programs last night with MasterChef taking 737,000 and the network seeing a slight increase in audience share to 17%.

SBS had 4.2% audience share.
