Fun times for Frankie at the Australian Magazine Awards

Frankie was the big winner at the Australian Magazine Awards (AMA) taking home two of the most prestigious prizes, including the coveted Magazine of the Year gong.

The bi-monthly title, published by Gold Coast-based Morrison Media, also took home the Fashion Magazine of the Year accolade, seeing off competition from the likes of Marie Claire and Vogue.

Frankie has been the belle of the magazine ball almost since launch in 2004. ABC circulation in the six months to June saw it increase 10.75%, while Roy Morgan readership spiked by 8.73%.

According to Nielsen AdEx ad volumes have followed suit, increasing 3%.

The AMA said Frankie is proving that "the print magazine industry is far from dead if publishers find a suitable niche and execute a relevant title well".

High-profile Better Homes and Gardens magazine editor Julia Zaetta took home Editor of the Year as well as a place in the AMA Hall of Fame.

The Australian Magazine Awards were established in 2009 to recognise magazines that perform at the highest level for publishers and advertisers. Since then, six new categories have been added: Custom, Website, App, Event, Editor of the Year and Front Cover.
