Epic night for TV as MKR finale lures three million

Australians were glued to their big screens last night for the finale of Seven’s My Kitchen Rules, which drew a combined audience of more than five million viewers over two episodes.

The My Kitchen Rules Winner Announced lured a whopping 2.95 million, while the Grand Final episode won 2.15 million.

The fourth season of the reality cooking show has drawn consistently large audiences for Seven since its premiere on January 28.

Seven also secured a standout result for the premiere of its new Australian drama, A Place to Call Home, which pulled 1.77 million viewers.

The show was created by the producers of Packed to the Rafters and Winners & Losers and is set against the backdrop of the post-war social change Down Under.

Nine’s The Voice, long time ratings rival to MKR, also scored high with just shy of two million viewers in third place.

Nine News Sunday, Nine’s 60 Minutes and ABC News also made it into the top ten, as did ABC’s Doctor Who, which won 725,000 viewers and Ten’s crime drama Elementary which took home 685,000.

Nine’s The Mentalist sat 11th with 656,000, while Seven’s UK drama Mrs Biggs took 13th spot with 617,000.

Ten dominated the next ten spots, with Modern Family sliding in 14th with 591,000, The Biggest Loser securing 15th with a modest 581,000, Ten News at Five  taking 499,000 in 16th place and Bondi Rescue luring 474,000 in 17th.

Seven took a massive 40% share of the night’s audience, while Nine took just over 30% and Ten took 13%. The ABC scored 11.6% while SBS won 5%.
