The Sunrise star Melissa Doyle will leave the morning program to soon front a new program.
After 14 years with the Sunrise – 12 of those co-hosting with David Koch – Doyle will take a two-week break before heading to London to cover the royal birth, then returning casually to Sunrise until the launch of the new program.
Samantha Armytage who fronts Weekend Sunrise will move over to the weekday slot to take Doyle’s place.
Melissa Doyle commented that she’s excited to take the next step with the new show.
“I’m honoured that the network has given me this incredible new opportunity and I am unbelievably excited about the new challenges ahead.”
David Koch commented on-air that he’s felt privileged to work with the co-host.
Details of the program Doyle will be fronting remain somewhat secret. She said via her Facebook fan page that it’s “a prime time network news initiative”, while thanking all those she’d worked with for the past years.
Seven West Media’s CEO Tim Worner said Doyle had helped redefine breakfast television.
“Her professionalism, wonderful warm nature and sharp journalistic skills make her perfectly equipped for the next phase in her career here at Seven.”
